Sohini Sanjay Mohanty salvaged some pride for host Odisha by winning the girls’ doubles title with West Bengal partner Swati Verma in the Puri Open AITA-OTA U-14 Talent Series Tennis Tournament, held at Puri Club Tennis Complex in Puri from April 7 to 13, 2018.
In fact, Sohini and her statemate Yashraj Nayak were on course for double crowns, but settled with just one title, losing three finals out of four. Sohini finished runner-up in girls’ singles, losing to champion Oindrila Sen of West Bengal in straight sets.
Yashraj Nayak contended himself as runner-up in boys’ singles and doubles. JH Lalhruaizela of Mizoram bagged a double by winning both the boys singles and doubles titles. He won the doubles title with West Bengal partner Vayam Krishna.
